Workforce Development

Second Chance is all about placing growing people in good positions. Our Workforce Development training program is designed to expand and mature participants through rigorous modules that are focused on increasing skill levels, employability, and compensation potential.

Learning from the Best

Students receive copious amounts of classroom and hands-on field instruction in technical and life skills through highly trained professionals from well-respected organizations in the building and safety industry. We enlist only the best, so we’re confident our instructors know their stuff!

Promising Futures

Graduates of our training program are guaranteed associate level positions within Second Chance’s deconstruction services or retail operations. Promotions to greater realms of responsibility are available. These jobs carry rewards of above average wages and valuable intangibles, including a foundation upon which graduates can build meaningful careers. Due in part to a screening process that ensures the most motivated and potentially successful individuals are selected, the program boasts a 97% graduation rate! To be considered for the program, please visit our Employment Opportunities page.

Employment Focus

“Employment raises dignity and inspires hope. Dignity and hope support better decision making, which benefits individuals and communities.”

— Mark Foster, Second Chance Founder & President

At the core of the mission of Second Chance is a commitment to employing the unemployed, underemployed, and others facing barriers to employment. Training is certainly part of the process, but it is only a means to the end. The real goal for Second Chance is to create living-wage, green-collar jobs and to train people to succeed in them for the long term.

Since our inception, Second Chance has hired the people it trains. By offering both training opportunities and jobs in a growing industry of the new Green Economy, the Second Chance model provides a powerful pathway to sustainable careers for Baltimore citizens facing the most difficult employment challenges. The impact this has on the lives of our workforce, their families, and the greater community is undeniable.
